About this Event
What is Huna?
Huna is the modern Western label given to the ancient healing and spiritual shamanism of ancient Hawai`i. The teachings have been passed down through particular family lineages, and were once secret and carefully guarded – but today, some families teach Huna openly. Huna is sometimes associated with neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) or hypnosis, but it is distinctly different from these practices. Instead, Huna is a way of thinking, doing, and being, with processes and techniques that can assist you in your personal, professional, and spiritual growth and development.
Family Lineage
The school’s Huna lineage, Hālau Ho`omanaloa (School of Energetic Empowerment) in Kona, Hawai`i, descends from the Bray and James families, with significant influence from Uncle George Na`ope, Kumu John Ka`imikaua, and Aunty Bernie (Na`ope) Konanui. Our current teachers are Kumu/Dr. Matthew James and Kumu Etua Lopes. This is an unbroken Huna lineage of 121 generations.

Presented by Kumu Karen Moriuchi:
Karen A. Moriuchi, MA, OTR/L; Kumu of Hālau Ho`omanaloa (School of Energetic Empowerment) in Kona, Hawai`i. Huna Practitioner and student of Na Ao Opua Kilokilo Ka Haiki A Na Lani.
Huna is Karen’s chosen way of life. Born and raised on Hawai`i Island, Karen Moriuchi was initially raised as a Southern Baptist. At age fifteen, she began to search for other teachings, and eventually found Huna more than 20 years ago. Huna has led her to major life improvements around her family, relationships, spirituality, and career. She continues to choose Huna for ongoing improvements in personal growth and development, health, and fitness.
Professionally, Karen is a retired Occupational Therapist. Besides the traditional rehabilitation methods, she has added Huna and other techniques to her practice. She is now retired but continues to see private clients. Karen also received training in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), hypnotherapy, and Mental and Emotional Release (MER®) techniques.
