Do you have neglected hedges on your land, or just want to acquire the knowledge and skills of this ancient craft? Then join us to learn how to make them stock-proof, more beneficial to wildlife and look good too. We will teach you traditional hedge-laying using hand tools most notably the Bill Hook – the iron age tool that is still the best for the job today.
This ancient heritage skill is rapidly disappearing from our countryside. Through the technique of hedge laying, trees are prompted to regrow, enhancing both their lifespan and that of the entire hedge. A properly laid hedge serves as an effective barrier against livestock movement while offering shelter and protection from harsh winter conditions. Additionally, hedgerows create an essential habitat for wildlife, capture carbon, aid in flood prevention, and ensure fields remain secure for farmers.
