About this Event
The art of gilding is believed to have originated in ancient Egypt. Today, gold leaf is applied to decorative objects from furniture to simpler applications like signage and works on paper.
The workshop will be convivial, with an opportunity to meet like-minded makers. Coffee and lunch (with vegan options) are included.
Our teaching artist, Lucie Chabrol-Nyssens, was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and raised in Brussels, Belgium. She moved to New York City in the 1980s, where she built a successful career in interior design and architecture, managing several high-profile projects, including the 5th Avenue residence of the Belgian ambassador.
Over the past decade, Lucie developed a passion for gold leaf and studied under master guilders at the "Centre des métiers du Patrimoine à la Paix-Dieu" in Amay, Belgium, L'atelier d'Emilie Goncalves and Palazzo Spinelli in Florence, Italy. Lucie now works with a growing client list at her atelier in Brussels, Belgium. Drawing from her global experiences, Lucie divides her time between Harlem, Brussels, and Tresana, a picturesque village in the Tuscan hills.
