Includes microscopy and Evidence Mounting

Accompanying your theory training is a full day classroom Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) experience and practical sessions - multiple UK locations available

(Crime Scene practical experience day can be completed before or after your theory training)


IMPORTANT NOTE:

This course contains actual forensic scenes and therefore viewer discretion is advised. Minimum recommended age 18 (16 with parental consent)


Basic understanding of English language required


PART 1 - ONLINE THEORY: complete this part online (eLearning) at home or work and download a certificate of completion.

This part of the course is modular and consists of 29 modules in total.

Can be completed on multiple devices (such as mobile phone, kindle, tablet, laptop etc.) and you can stop / start the course modules at your convenience.

Total study time approx. 6-8 hours.


PART 2 - CLASSROOM: Learn key forensic skills with a series of practical sessions covering essential topics in forensic science, applicable to a crime scene.

Attend a classroom location for one full day and participate in our "Crime Scene Investigator" sessions.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning outcomes include, but not limited to:


  • Recognising the role of forensic laboratories and the major disciplines within forensic science.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in crime scene examination techniques.
  • Understanding and applying the principles and applications of forensic pathology, anthropology, entomology, serology, and microscopy in criminal investigations.
  • Applying techniques for analysing hair, pollen, soil, paint, glass, fingerprints, DNA, ballistic evidence, bloodstains, and impression evidence.
  • Interpreting results from drug and toxicology analyses, handwriting analysis, and death investigation processes to draw conclusions in criminal cases.
  • Identifying the duties and responsibilities of a forensic scientist as an expert witness, including the impact of forensic evidence on legal proceedings and potential miscarriages of justice.


AFTER THE COURSE


  • Use recognised forensic observational skills to examine and record a crime scene.
  • Understand the application of DNA profiling in identifying or excluding a suspect.
  • Appreciate the methods used to test for specific drugs.
  • Competently use a microscope for routine investigations including analysis of soil, paint, glass, hair and tool marks.
  • Understand the use of casts and impressions for footprint and tyre investigations.
  • Recognise an arson scene of crime.
  • View and analyse handwriting to recognise fraud and counterfeiting.
  • Understand the stages of death and determination time of death, including the application of forensic entomology.
  • Appreciate the processes involved in cranial-facial reconstruction.
  • Understand how to apply forensic photography techniques under challenging conditions.
