About this Event

During the first part of class, students will learn about the different types of textiles they may encounter. This includes how to recognize fiber and structure, how to select the right material for a project, and care basics. During the second part of class, students will put theory into practice, using multiple senses to identify mystery pieces of fabric and plan projects.

Who is this class for? Sewers, thrifters, crafters, fiber folk, and anyone who wants to know more about soft materials. No experience necessary.

About the instructor, Amelia Roberts: Amelia has a textile degree and experience as a sewer, weaver, craft educator, and art history enthusiast, all of which influences her understanding of fabrics. She loves tinkering with textiles and has been teaching sewing and fiber crafts to adults for over ten years.

This class is a part of our Fabrics and Fibers Skill Series, which includes 12 classes and 1 event that hope to give you the opportunity to learn a variety of textile-based skills.

Our sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income.
