About this Event
Introduction to Eating Disorders
Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, and their incidence is increasing exponentially.
Whilst this is a specialist area of therapy, it is valuable for all counsellors to have an understanding of eating disorders, as well as disordered eating. This understanding means that counsellors can spot warning signs, be able to hear disclosures, hold clients waiting for specialist treatment, and take the right action, as well as supporting clients who are friends and family of sufferers.
Throughout the day we will explore:
- The signs, symptoms and risks of eating disorders and disordered eating
- What it is like for the client
- Factors in the development of eating disorders
- Tools and techniques to support clients, including experiential learning through working on your own 'food script.'
- Competence and referral
Kay and Edwina are BACP accredited counsellors. They both hold 'Master Practitioner' Diplomas from the National Centre for Eating Disorders, a training accredited by the British Psychological Society, and which adopts a 'whole person' approach to working with these conditions.
Kay and Edwina have extensive experience of working with this client group, including those suffering with Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and disordered eating.
