About this Event
Introduction to Drawing: Foundations Workshop
This beginner-friendly workshop is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to draw and master the foundations of drawing. Whether you’re picking up a pencil for the first time or returning to drawing after years away, this course focuses on the absolute essentials that form the foundation of strong draftsmanship. Students will learn how to truly see and translate observation into line, shape, and value. Through guided exercises and demonstrations, students will explore proper materials and how to use them (pencils, erasers, paper, blending tools), line quality and mark-making, contour line drawing, shape, proportion, value scales and shading techniques. Students will draw from still life observation, placing an emphasis on developing observational drawing skills and developing a composition. Students will complete a series of short studies and a finished still life drawing that integrates the core skills learned in class.By the end of this workshop, students will understand the fundamental principles of drawing and leave with practical tools to continue developing their artistic practice.
