About this Event

This one week intensive course provides opportunities to practise consecutive and simultaneous interpreting on topics such as human rights, business, political issues and diplomacy. It is a practical course that offers a safe space to learn collaboratively. It will contribute to understanding the working environment, acquiring basic skills used in conference interpreting, practising consecutive and simultaneous interpreting with authentic speeches and presentations. It will finally teach you to critically assess your own performance.

We are delighted to offer this course as a hybrid event. Participants may join online or onsite.

The course is delivered in English. All languages are paired up with English that can be native or at C2 level. When English is a second level at C2 level, the other language must be native. We offer Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Ukrainian (other languages may be added on demand).

This course has been running for more than 15 years. In the past, some participants who attended enrolled in Master's programs in conference interpreting. Others who worked as interpreters in other fields improved their interpreting skills. And finally, students outside of Europe continued their professional development in the field locally.

The hybrid participation offers an opportunity to experience remote simultaneous interpreting, face to face interpreting as well as a hybrid solution in multilingual events with interpretation. The state-of-the-art Interpreting Suite at London Met provides outstanding facilities and technology in the field which reflects the recent development in the industry.

The course offers memory enhancement exercises, public speaking opportunities, interpreting skill based exercises and communication strategies in the morning. Afternoons are dedicated to practising in authentic settings.

The last day of the course offers an opportunity to participate in a mock conference with students from the MA Conference Interpreting.

T he cost for the course is £800. Please select Free ticket to register to the course. Here is the link to pay: https://eshop.londonmet.ac.uk/short-courses/short-courses/interpreting-and-translation-short-course/introduction-to-conference-interpreting
