Cold wax is all the rage these days, and it does produce some pretty amazing effects! Come explore the versatility of this popular medium with mixed media artist Denby Dale.First, Denby will introduce you to cold wax’ malleable properties and explain how it differs from encaustic (heated wax paint). Denby will also discuss traditional and non-traditional tools for application, appropriate substrates and surfaces, compatibility with other media, and drying agents to use when mixing with oil.
Then, through demonstrations and prompts, you’ll practice incorporating cold wax into your mark making toolbox. You’ll play with additive and subtractive techniques to create everything from luminous smooth finishes to texturized surfaces. You’ll leave the class with an assortment of cold wax painting studies on various art papers and at least one 6” x 8” original work on Claybord panel and/or heavyweight mixed media paper.
Whether you’re a dabbler, drawer, photographer, painter, or mixed media artist, you’ll have a great time experimenting with this exciting medium!
No previous drawing or painting experience necessary!
