About this Event
This pottery course is for those wanting to gain hand building experience.
Each week you will spend time exploring different coiling and slab building techniques, along with surface and colour applications. These skills will build up to give you a good grounding for further explorations with clay. There will be set skills which you will be encouraged to interpret in your own style.
There are two different options for this course:
Thursday 10th August - 15 hours of teaching time over 3 full days in the studio.
This course will run over 3 consecutive Thursdays from 10th August. These whole-day sessions last from 10 am – 4 pm, with an hour break from 12.30 pm - 1.30 pm, during which time you are welcome to enjoy a packed lunch or visit the Harley Cafe or Farm Shop.
Friday 8th September - 15 hours of teaching time over 6 mornings in the studio.
This course will run over 6 consecutive Friday mornings from 8th September. Sessions run 10 am - 12.30 pm.
For both courses, the fee includes all clay, plus glazing and firing for up to 6 items.
If you would like to glaze and fire additional items, this is charged by object size:
6” cubed - £3
9” cubed - £5
12” cubed - £9
You may also wish to book on for Self-Guided Studio Access on Friday afternoons if you wish to extend your studio time. This is not a taught session, but tutor support will be available if you need a hand. (Additional fees apply.)

We run The Harley Pottery Studio, a community space where visitors can work in inspiring surroundings – in an idyllic countryside location and surrounded by practicing artists and makers.
All of our classes are subsidised by the Foundation and generously supported by Nottinghamshire County Council. We work to offer an accessible, affordable place to practice pottery making.
