Introduction to Carpentry - 20 July

If you love working with wood but want to improve your skills, come along to this DIY course, demonstrating basic carpentry knowledge and skills to construct a simple storage crate from reclaimed material.

This 5 hour workshop will give you the skills and foundations to undertake small DIY woodwork projects by guiding you through the process of creating your own multi-function toolbox using reclaimed and repurposed materials.
You will learn about working with hand and power tools, timber selection, measuring and planning for projects and different finishing techniques for timber. You will gain an understanding of workshop terminology and techniques that will allow you to approach your own projects with confidence.

By the end of this introduction to carpentry course, you should have:

• Knowledge of general safety in the workshop
• Understanding of second-hand timber
• Knowledge of good woodworking practices
• Understanding of correct marking out and how to work accurately to a plan
• Hands-on experience and guidance with drill, driver, jigsaw, handsaw and circular saw
• A storage crate to take home
