About this Event
Trees are the cornerstones of our urban greenspaces, just as they are in our wild habitats. Believe it or not, our cities are home to a surprising range of trees from all over the world growing side by side and forming our diverse and beautiful urban canopy.
Perfect for beginners, in this session, we'll take a close look at the common trees you're likely to encounter in urban areas across the North East, and perhaps a few unusual species too. We'll put our ID skills to the test recognising familiar species and learning to separate several trees which look a little alike to the untrained eye.
Whether you are a budding botanist or simply someone who 'quite likes trees', all are welcome.
Questions (and identification queries) are welcome at any time by emailing [email protected].
Please read the terms and conditions for NHSN Education Courses and paid events before booking.
Recommended equipment:
Sturdy shoes
Accessibility:
Crossing grassy and slightly uneven areas will be required from time to time.
About the event lead:
James works as Senior Naturalist at NHSN. Outside of work, he is a passionate wildlife recorder with a focus on botany and invertebrates. As a botanist, he is a joint BSBI Vice-County Recorder for North Northumberland and an iRecord verifier for South Northumberland. Away from plants, he is an enthusiastic recorder of insects, especially ladybirds.
