About this Event
Instructor - Julienne Ho
Julienne Ho is a maker and designer who specializes in digital fabrication and creative technology. As a makerspace steward and digital fabrication specialist, she has guided students through projects using everything from laser cutters to 3D printers, while her own work has spanned from space exploration to infrastructure design. She currently works as a Tool Tester at Artisan's Asylum in Boston, where she helps maintain equipment and teaches members how to use various fabrication tools.
Class Description
Learn to use a vinyl cutter! This introductory course is designed to teach you the fundamentals of vinyl cutting. We'll learn how to make custom-cut stickers and iron-on decals for apparel. Through hands-on experience in the Digital Fabrication (DigiFab) studio, students will learn to transform digital designs into physical creations. The course combines technical instruction with creative exploration. After the course, students are welcome to use the vinyl cutter at Artisan's Asylum with a day pass or membership, opening up possibilities for both personal projects and potential business ventures.

Class Goals
The course will cover the fundamental technical aspects of vinyl cutting, including:
● Understanding vinyl cutter components and their functions
● Proper machine setup, maintenance, and safety protocols
● Introduction to design software and file preparation
● Material selection and cutting parameter adjustment
● Weeding techniques and transfer tape application
● Project finishing and surface preparation methods

Prerequisites
All ages are welcome. All students under 18 must be accompanied by and under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.
