Intro to Theater Clown
About this Event
Since the dawn of culture, masked performance has been transformational for humanity. In mask, a performer channels archetypal energy that needs to be expressed for the collective good. In the case of the red nose—the smallest mask—that energy comes from the archetype you personally embody.
In Intro to Theater Clown, we uncover our own red nose energy by exploring primal urges, playing that in ourselves which most needs to be expressed …right now!
We accomplish this through:
· Body Freeing Exercises
· Physical Vocabulary Building
· Group Play
· Stage Work: Performer and Engaged Audience
This course is suitable for all levels—from experienced clowns to the clown curious.
If you have a nose you like, please bring it. Red noses will be available for those who need them.
Abbey Pleviak co-founded Stumptown Clown Collective in Portland, OR, where she curated clown workshops and devised and directed the annual holiday soiree. She has trained in stage and street clown traditions from Europe, North America, and South America, with teachers including Sue Morrison, Giovanni Fusetti, and Jacob Mooney. Abbey loves creating a safe container for people to deeply engage their personal absurdity in a circle of loving attention, so they can laugh at the beauty of their own ridiculousness.
