A spool gun is a specialized MIG (Metal Inert Gas) or GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) hand-held welding torch that houses a small roll of wire directly on a handle (vs inside of the welder). Spool guns are most often used on aluminum which is very different from welding on steel.
In this class, we will cover:
- Equipment set-up and fundamentals
- Materials preparation, and the differences between welding aluminum and steel
- Welding techniques and parameters - also different from steel
- Troubleshooting and quality control
- Hands-on practice running flat beads, some joint fit-up, and some real world fabrication scenarios
This class is best-suited for those with previous welding experience and those who are interested in working with aluminum.
