About this Event
Important notes:
- This is a two day course: 9/29 and 10/6! Registration gets you access to both days. See below for agenda.
- Check your email within 24 hours for a link to a survey to better serve you on the day of the class.
- The class is held in the upstairs of an old building with no elevator. If you have mobility issues, please reach out ahead of time. We have a solution and I’ll send you details.
Despite all the advances in modern technology, the basics of photography haven’t really changed in the last 100 years. The three basic variables (shutter speed, aperture, and ISO) are as fundamental to every digital photograph today as they were to every film photograph taken in generations past.
This class will explain how they all affect your photos, when to adjust them, and when to let the camera do the thinking for you. The best way to learn is by actually doing it so come prepared to do some shooting!
Things we’ll cover:
- Standard shooting modes: TV, AV, M, B, P, etc.
- ISO
- Exposure compensation
- White balance
- Exposure bracketing
- Metering modes
- Analyzing the histogram
- Introduction to different lens types
- Basic principles of composition and lighting
- Introduction to JPG vs. RAW files
Things to bring:
- Camera (any camera with a removable lens will do)
- Any other lenses you may have
- Tripod if you have one
- The camera’s manual
- An object to photograph (should be no smaller than a bottle of nail polish, no larger than a beer can, and able to stand on its own.)
Things to remember:
- Make sure the battery is charged
- Please empty your memory card first (If you don’t know how, come a little early and we’ll get it sorted out)
