About this Event
WHAT IS THIS?
An event where we share 1 word we will carry throughout the year & meanwhile we create some sort of "talisman." Each year the craft project is different.
2025's gathering will be SILVER CLAY PENDENTS featuring guest teacher and silversmith, Even Howard!
What is silver clay?
Silver clay is genuine sterling silver in clay form that we will mold, add our word, fire it in a kiln and polish it for a final piece of art.
This is a beginner level craft. No experience necessary.
Cost:
This is a sliding scale class to allow for the class to be more affordable for those who need it. The class includes all materials and location cost.
ABOUT YOUR TEACHERS:
Katy Atchison is a Bay Area-based visual artist and certified Intentional Creativity instructor, she blends art-making with personal reflection to help people express deeper insights. With over 15 years of teaching experience, Katy has led workshops in various mediums, from weaving to jewelry. She also created the annual Word of the Year Talisman Craft Class, where students craft a talisman using a different artistic technique each year.
Even Howard is a community-based artist and silversmith who loves choosing work in care of people, place, and process. An experienced instructor of creative arts for all ages, Even offers craft workshops where we can all reimagine ourselves and our interactions, where we can make memories, and where we can bring the skills of our ancestors back into our own hands.
ABOUT THE LOCATION:
East Bay Stained Glass Collective: This year we are so lucky to have a beautiful location to work out of. The East Bay Stained Glass Collective, led by artist Kerbi Urbanowski (@kerbi_kerbi) is a collaborative group of artists and artisans dedicated to preserving and innovating the art of stained glass in the East Bay area of California. The collective brings together a diverse range of creatives, from traditional stained glass craftsmen to contemporary artists, to explore and expand the possibilities of the medium. They offer workshops, classes, and collaborative projects, fostering a community where both seasoned professionals and beginners can learn and share their skills.
SOME ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND:
To Prepare for Class: Pick one word as your theme for 2025.
This word is in place of resolutions. I invite you all to come to and make a piece of art that showcases your 2025 word of the year.
It's the lucky 13th year making talismans for our year ahead.
