HONEYBEE DISCOVERY CENTER TO HOST HANDS-ON BEEKEEPING WORKSHOP AT CHICO STATE FARM ON SAT., MAY 4thCHICO, CA - (April 16, 2024) -- The Honeybee Discovery Center, in collaboration with Chico State University Farm, is pleased to announce a beekeeping workshop titled "Introduction to Practical Beekeeping." Scheduled for Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., this hands-on workshop will take place at the Chico State University Farm. It is designed for anyone wishing to learn more about bees or start a hive. Time will also be available for more experienced beginning beekeepers who want more information on managing their hives.
The workshop will be led by two professional beekeepers, Kevin Ward and Jerry Hightower, both of whom have a lifetime of successful beekeeping. They will cover starting a hive, installing a queen and package bees, how to safely manage a hive and other basic beekeeping skills. Rob Snyder, an expert in the management of bee pests and diseases, will share valuable information on how to sustain a healthy bee colony. Fredy Valenzuela, an experienced, bilingual beekeeper, will be on hand with the other workshop presenters to ensure that participants have an opportunity to get their questions answered. The objective is for participants to gain confidence to start their own hive or to just satisfy their curiosity about bees.
"With bee populations declining globally, it's crucial to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain honeybee populations," Ward said. "This workshop aims to empower participants to become stewards of bee health and sustainability."
Pre-registration is required for the workshop, with limited space available. The registration fee is $85 per person.
