Intro to Machine Sewing

Never used a sewing machine before, or feeling a little intimidated by yours? This class is designed for the absolute beginner!

Learn the basics of machine sewing in a relaxed, supportive environment. Machines will be provided to learn on, or you are welcome to bring your own sewing machine from home, and the instructor will help you get comfortable and familiar with how your machine works.

Through a simple, practical project, you’ll learn essential sewing skills including sewing straight lines, using the reverse/backstitch function to secure your seams, turning corners, and getting comfortable controlling your fabric and machine. We’ll also practice basic hand-sewing techniques to finish the project.

Our class project will be a simple rice-filled, microwavable neck pillow. You’ll leave with a useful handmade item while building the confidence and foundational skills to continue sewing on your own.

No prior sewing experience is required — this class is truly beginner level!

Class size is limited to 6 students, so be sure to register early!

Hi, I’m Gir Session! I’m a costume maker, textile artist, and sewing instructor with over 15 years of experience working with fabric, color, and design. I love helping people discover just how fun and approachable textile arts can be—whether you’re trying something new for the first time or looking to expand your creative toolbox.

In my classes, you’ll learn practical techniques in a relaxed, welcoming environment where curiosity and creativity are encouraged. My goal is for everyone to leave with a unique project they’re proud of, new skills, and the confidence to keep creating long after class is over.
