Our 8-Week Intro to Improv Course in Launceston is designed for beginners who want to build confidence, think on their feet, and reconnect with creativity — without pressure to perform or “be funny”.
* You don’t need acting experience.
* You don’t need confidence yet.
* You just need curiosity and a willingness to try.
Run by Launceston Improv Theatre, this course offers a welcoming, beginner-safe space where learning happens through play, laughter, and encouragement.
What this course is (and isn’t)
This course is:
• Beginner-friendly and supportive
• Guided by experienced, encouraging facilitators
• Focused on confidence, creativity, and connection
• Designed so everyone starts on equal footing
This course is not:
• A high-pressure performance class
• Script-based acting training
• Competitive or intimidating
Most people arrive feeling a bit nervous.
Most people leave surprised by how capable they feel.
What you’ll learn over 8 weeks
Through games, exercises, and guided scene work, you’ll explore:
• The basics of improv and the “Yes, And” mindset
• Listening, focus, and responding with confidence
• Character creation and storytelling
• Building scenes collaboratively
• Using movement, voice, and imagination
• Musical improv (introduced in a fun, low-pressure way)
The course finishes with a relaxed final showcase — a celebration of progress, not a high-pressure performance.
