ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
This beginner-friendly workshop introduces the fundamentals of lighting for film and video production. Students will learn the purpose of lighting, how to shape and control light, basic lighting equipment, and the principles behind professional cinematic images. Perfect for aspiring filmmakers, content creators, and anyone interested in visual storytelling.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR, MAXIMO CONTRERAS:
Born in Mexico City and raised in Nuevo Laredo, Maximo Contreras’s passion for the film industry began at a young age. Starting at just 15 years old, he began working as a videographer, mostly on weddings and quinceañeras on both sides of the border.
After graduating from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s degree in Radio, Television and Film, Máximo moved to the DFW metroplex to pursue his career professionally. He began working in the camera department for news outlets and reality shows and eventually moved into the lighting department for scripted television and film, where he found his calling. He has worked as film camera operator, assistant camera operator, lighting technician, grip, and gaffer.
