Intro to Energy Photography with Kim Philley, PhD

Human eyes only perceive 0.0035% of the electromagnetic spectrum of light. We are surrounded by all the light we cannot see. This high-frequency light is also who we are. As spiritual beings having a human experience, we are light energy first and foremost and we are all connected through a universal webwork, or matrix, of light. This deeper, energetic reality is elucidated by modern Quantum physics as well as through ancient mystic teachings such as the Vedic concept of Indra’s Net.
Kim Philley took her first “impossible” photographs of spiritual energy on the day her grandmother died in 2009, when she felt enveloped by her spirit. In 2025, she shared her anomalous photography at the Archives of the Impossible conference at Rice University in Houston; now a team of scientists convened at Rice are working with Kim to better understand the discipline Kim calls Energy Photography.
In the past year, over a dozen people who have photographed with Kim have developed the ability to photograph spiritual energies themselves. Kim believes the ability to photograph non-physical energy is evolutionary and that we are living at a time when this skill can be activated in others. Her mission in life is to extend this knowledge to the collective consciousness for the benefit of all beings.
The first hour of the workshop will be devoted to a presentation of Kim’s Energy Photography framework, a selection of her anomalous photographs, and the interplay between sensing spiritual energy and capturing it photographically. In the second hour of the workshop, participants will have a chance to take their own photographs with Kim circulating as a coach.
Participants are encouraged to bring their cell phone cameras, preferably iPhone, as well as digital cameras with a working flash (DSLRs). Kim takes most of her energy photographs on an iPhone camera with the flash disabled and will coach participants on the best exposure parameters for iPhone cameras. Participants without iPhones are encouraged to bring a digital camera and Kim will coach them in orb photography, as orbs are more easily captured on a DSLR with the flash enabled.
