ABOUT MARY CATHERINE

Mary Catherine Rochford is an El Paso-born multidisciplinary artist that currently lives in Austin, Texas. Her work is a homage to the complexity of women and is created through oil painting, digital media, and embroidery.

“ I make art because it helps me find peace and stillness in an often chaotic world. When I first began painting, it was just an easy way for me to destress at the end of the night. Now, it’s become a way for me to communicate and connect with my community. I believe that making art should be a welcoming experience, where you can relax and play. Through these workshops, I will show you that everyone is a ‘maker’.”

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Join Mary Catherine Rochford, the artist behind @mary.gets.graphic, to learn the basics of embroidery and how you can use it to revamp your style. Through this introductory workshop, you will learn how to set up an embroidery project, transfer patterns, and apply basic stitching. Bring your own article of clothing to embroider or create a wall decoration from original @mary.gets.graphic patterns! You'll leave the class with something unique to wear and a new understanding of how to create your own embroidery pieces. This is not your grandma's embroidery class (but your grandma is totally invited!)

Note: Attendees are asked to bring in their own article of clothing to embroider on. T-shirts and jackets are preferable. The lighter the color of clothing, the better. Please do not bring any clothing that is black, you won't be able to see the embroidery pattern on it. If you do not have a piece of clothing, we will provide you with the cloth to create a wall decoration.
