Intro to Eco-Detection Workshop

Join Becca Kreski and Blair Pfeifer of K9 Conservationists for a two-day eco-detection workshop in Fort Collins, CO! Lecture topics include field safety, leave no trace ethics, know your target (odor selection and imprinting), odor movement and weather, distractions, increasing search duration, and more.
Whether you’re looking to casually forage or shed hunt alongside your dog or you’re interested in pursuing a career in conservation detection, this workshop is an excellent introduction to the world of ecological detection. 🌲 🍄🟫 🪵
❗️This is a 2-day workshop with Working and Auditing Spots
The schedule will be:
🗓️ Saturday 10/17 8am-2pm & Sunday 10/18 8am-12pm.
Please plan to attend both days. An additional practice session will be offered after 12:00 pm on Sunday at a local trailhead to see demo dogs in action (pending weather).
🐕 Working spots - We will meet the teams where they’re at and will involve taking the search outdoors, duration at source, expanding the search, distractions, and search strategy. A working spot means you will bring your dog with you to the workshop and practice the material with the trainers. Your dog must be able to work in a space with other dogs and people, and be able to settle during lecture portions of the workshop. The suggested prerequisites for a working spot are: You and your dog have taken at least one GROUP training class of any kind, at Summit or another facility, and can successfully train in this environment with other dogs in relatively close proximity. Please email [email protected] for help deciding if a working spot is the right fit for you and your dog.
👀 An auditing spot means you do not bring your dog with you to the workshop. You will learn the material along with the others and observe the working teams. This is a great option if your dog isn't ready for a long working day, is not able to work around other dogs, or you don't want the distraction of managing a dog while you learn the material.
