About this Event

Class overview: Here’s the secret: anyone can be an artist. You don’t need innate talent, just a willingness to practice. This 4-week class will teach you to see the world around you with an artist’s eye and translate what you see onto paper. You’ll learn to break things down into light and dark, shapes, angles, relationships, and more. Class will be taught mostly with charcoal but other materials will be available, or you can bring your own. The goal is to finish this class with the fundamentals you need to confidently continue your practice on your own.

Class will be held as a four-week series beginning the first day of your first class. If you have any questions about dates, holidays, or absences please speak to the instructor on your first day of class.
Dates for 4-week class:

8/18, 8/25, 9/1, 9/8

About the Instructor

Matt Swecker

Matt Swecker is a self-taught artist with experience in figure drawing, portrait drawing, and illustration. He’s dabbled in watercolors, ink, pastels, oil paints, acrylic paints, but feels most comfortable with charcoal. Through trial and error, he’s learned many techniques to make drawing accessible to all and wants to help people interested in drawing get started. Matt has shown his art in Seattle, WA and Jacksonville, FL and is now getting rooted in the Charlotte art community. You can view some of his art at @choochtheartist
