This workshop will provide an introduction to the captivating art of contact juggling! We'll explore how to manipulate a ball in a variety of beginner-friendly and accessible ways.
Unlike traditional juggling, where balls are thrown and caught, contact juggling focuses on the fluid and continuous manipulation of a ball while maintaining constant contact with the performer’s body. This discipline requires exceptional control, balance, and coordination, often creating the illusion that the balls are floating or suspended in mid-air.
We'll start with balance points involving the cradle and work our way up through the windshield wiper, learning several transfers that culminate in the walking halfpipe. Along the way we'll learn several isolations, such as the claw and enigma variations. We'll also explore how to modify our sequence with symmetry and complexity.
Balls will be provided, and are also available for purchase.

? --- A brief history of contact juggling --- ?
Contact juggling traces its origins back to ancient times when performers used stones and balls in early juggling acts. However, the modern form of contact juggling as we know it today began to take shape in the 1980s, thanks to the innovative techniques introduced by Michael Moschen.
The growth of contact juggling was further propelled by the rise of the internet in the late 1990s and early 2000s, enabling enthusiasts from around the world to share techniques, tutorials, and performances. Today, contact juggling is celebrated for its beauty and grace, blending elements of dance, mime, and traditional juggling into a unique and captivating performance art.
