CHICAGO AIKIKAI
Chicago Aikikai is an inclusive community for exploring aikido in all its forms: a martial art, an expression of Japanese traditions, and mind-body discipline. Our members include aikidoka (aikido students) of all kinds – from the curious to dedicated martial arts enthusiasts. “Aikikai” combines “aiki” in “aikido” with “kai” (会) meaning gathering or association.
Starting in the 1960s as an informal group in Chicago’s unofficial Lake View Japantown, Chicago Aikikai today is acclaimed for its high-quality training and unique rustic Japanese-style space. It is currently located in a second-floor space in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood.
Under current Chief Instructor Marsha Turner (6th dan), we strive to provide a warm and supportive community for training, study and personal development.
