Astronomy Nights feature fun-filled and educational experiences for the whole family.
About this Event

Important information: this is not a ticket into the museum. You do not need to bring this the night of the program. Registering for astronomy night is just for a reminder. It is not a ticket.

Astronomy Nights are back!
The museum will open to the public for free from 5:00pm-9:00pm and will include, talks and activities from the Museum’s education department.

Local astronomers will be on hand with their high-powered telescopes to help visitors navigate the night sky and answer questions about astronomy and stargazing. Guests are welcome to bring their own binoculars or look through the telescopes of the experts.


Schedule:

5:30pm-7:30pm Make a Mars Rover Workshop: Build your own rover to help prepare for scientific exploration of Mars!

5:30pm-7:30pm Learn about Space Capsules - Mercury Capsule: Talk with a Museum Educator and discuss the Mercury-Atlas 7 and Gemini III missions that occurred during the Space Race!

6:00pm & 7:00pm Poof! Life in a Vacuum Demonstration: Discover the importance of the Earth's atmosphere is and why astronauts need to wear spacesuits. Using a bell jar and vacuum pump, Museum educators will mimic the vacuum of space and its effect on objects.

6:30pm Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise in conversation with former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino, on Haise’s new memoir, Never Panic Early: An Apollo 13 Astronaut’s Journey. (approx. 45 minutes)

7:00pm-9:00pm: Flight Deck telescope viewing with the Amateur Astronomers Association

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: THIS IS NOT A TICKET INTO THE MUSEUM. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING THIS THE NIGHT OF THE PROGRAM. REGISTERING FOR ASTRONOMY NIGHT IS JUST FOR A REMINDER. IT IS NOT A TICKET.

Astronomy Nights are free, register for a reminder!

Doors will open promptly at 5:00 pm, Last entry to the Museum is at 8:30 pm (doors subject to close earlier, entry is not guaranteed). All visitors must enter through the Welcome Center to receive a ticket prior to entering the Museum. While face masks are no longer required, we strongly recommend wearing masks at indoor locations. We ask that each person's individual choice is respected.
