A one-night-only tasting event celebrating Australia’s fiercest (and friendliest) wine rivalry.
We’ve gathered top-tier boutique winemakers from six states – VIC, NSW, SA, WA, TAS and QLD – to pour their most exciting small-batch wines, many of which are only available on-premise. Think of it as the State of Origin for vino lovers.
Expect rare releases, plenty of wine-fuelled banter, and the opportunity to chat directly with the producers. Bottles will be available to purchase on the night so you can take home your favourites at a significant discount to what you would pay on premise. But wait – the main event’s still to come. Don’t miss our Somme vs Judge Masterclass – the ultimate wine showdown. In one corner, Jay Bessell – sommelier, wine whisperer and man of the people. In the other, Jane Faulkner – Halliday judge, journalist, and one of Australia’s sharpest palates. It’s hospitality vs high scorecards. Crowd-pleasers vs critical acclaim. Jay brings the front-of-house flair – reading the room, pairing to the plate, spotting value and wines with cult potential. Jane brings the rigour – comparing varietals across states, unpacking terroir, and judging with clarity and purpose. Together, they'll guide you through six wines, pit states against each other, debate their picks – and let you decide the winner with a People’s Choice vote.
