About this Event
Amos Nachoum: A Visionary of the Deep
Amos is a man driven to exceed limits.
For over four decades, Amos Nachoum has stood as a pioneer in wildlife and underwater photography, seamlessly blending the roles of explorer, artist, and conservationist. Immersing himself in the most pristine aquatic habitats on Earth, he captures breathtaking images that not only inspire but also educate, revealing the raw power, delicate balance, and intricate dance of life beneath the waves.
Amos’s journey began with resilience and service, but it was the serenity of the ocean that truly called to him. Relocating to the United States, he refined his craft, developing an unparalleled mastery of light, motion, and marine behavior. His dedication to dispelling myths about "dangerous wildlife" has driven him to seek intimate, awe-inspiring encounters with some of the world's most formidable creatures—anacondas, orcas, and leopard seals—proving that humans and nature can coexist in harmony.
His extraordinary talent has earned him global recognition. A celebrated speaker, Amos has presented at three TEDx events, and his photography has garnered some of the industry's highest accolades. He has won awards from Nikon, twice received the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year award in the animal behavior category, and was named American Photographer of the Year. His list of honors also includes the Lucie Award for Underwater Photography, the Diver of the Year award (2015), and multiple first-place finishes in the Siena Awards (2018, 2022). In 2019, he was named Sea Keepers’ Man of the Year, and in 2021, he was recognized as Nature Photographer of the Year. Most recently, he received the prestigious NOGI Award for Art in November 2023.
Amos continually pushes the boundaries of exploration. His most remarkable wildlife experience to date was a rare and historic dive with a polar bear mother and her two cubs—an encounter so extraordinary that only five people have ever achieved it, compared to the twelve who have set foot on the moon. This breathtaking moment was documented in the acclaimed film Picture of His Life, chronicling his fearless career.
Driven by an insatiable curiosity and a deep commitment to conservation, Amos Nachoum continues to inspire the world through his lens, reminding us of the fragile beauty of our planet and the urgent need to protect it.
