About this course

A course for adults concerned with keeping themselves safe online. Whilst many online safety courses deal with child protection, this one these focusses specifically on adults and the very different set of issues they face. It is ideal for anyone who might be worried about internet safety and who are reluctant to embrace the benefits of online life because of those concerns.

During the course, we will look at:

  • The variety of scams and how to spot them
  • Staying safe from viruses and other malware
  • Understanding cookies: what do they do? Are they a risk? Should you allow them?
  • Online banking – pros and cons.
  • Safer social media

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • To recognise and protect themselves from scams in emails and other messaging services.
  • Know about good computer ‘housekeeping’ to prevent viruses infecting their devices.
  • Understand the risks and so make safer and better-informed choices when using online services.
  • Be more confident when surfing the web and using email

Please note this is not a computer basics course. It does not involve any ‘hands on’ computer use. Some familiarity with browsing websites and reading emails will be beneficial.
