Join us at the Montgomery Zoo for International Tiger Day. International Tiger Day (also known as Global Tiger Day) is celebrated every year to raise awareness about tiger conservation, promote the protection of natural habitat of tigers and support tiger conservation issues. The annual day is celebrated with the slogan “Their survival is in our hands.” Donate today to help save these beautiful, big cats.
> Event: International Tiger Day at the Montgomery Zoo
> Date: July 30
> Time: 10am – 4pm
> Location: Zoo’s Asia section at the Bengal Tiger exhibit
At the Montgomery Zoo, we want to take this day to celebrate our BIG CAT friends, the Bengal Tiger. As many of you probably know, we have two Bengal tigers that reside at the Montgomery Zoo. Morte is our male, orange tiger, and Shanti is our female, white tiger. Both are eight years, and despite being littermates, they are not siblings. Unlike most cats, tigers love to swim; especially on a warm Alabama afternoon. Both love hanging out visiting with our guests, and on occasion they enjoy chasing ducks that may have lost their way and found themselves in the tiger habitat.
By celebrating International Tiger Day, our goal is two-fold. We want to educate our guests on the importance tigers (all nine species) in zoos and in the wild. We want to make people aware of their plight in the wild and inform people what they can do to help save these magnificent cats. Their survival is in our hands. And we should not allow them to become extinct on our watch!
We also want our day to be filled with tiger wildlife adventures and fun. Swing by the Bengal Tiger exhibit in the Zoo’s Asia section during the hours of 10am – 2pm and visit with our team of Tiger keepers. They will provide:
-- Insightful tiger keeper talks and vital tiger information
-- Tell guests about conservation efforts taking place at the Zoo and in the wild
-- Let guests know what you can do to help
-- Provide an opportunity to give to the tigers plight
-- See genuine tiger artifacts
-- Collect tiger trading cards featuring Morte and Shanti
-- Collect tiger fact sheets featuring Morte and Shanti
-- Collect tiger coloring pages
-- Gain valuable information through various conservation publications
-- Get FREE THUMBS UP FOR TIGERS STICKERS to show your support and pose for social media pics
-- View a collection of tiger images
-- View tiger paintings and a video showing Morte and Shanti painting
-- Visit with Morte and Shanti, our two Bengal tigers
-- DONATE TODAY TO SAVE TIGERS
