International Jazz Day Celebration Featuring The Chuchito Valdez Trio

The Chuchito Valdez Trio will be gracing us with their incredible talent, promising a memorable evening filled with the best of jazz music. "Chuchito Valdes is pleased to be part of what he calls a family dynasty. The third generation in a family of Cuban jazz pianists, Valdes’ grandfather, Bebo (1918-2013), was a jazz force beginning in the late ’40s in Havana and recorded with Nat King Cole in 1960. Chuchito’s father, Chucho, is a founder of the famous Cuban jazz-pop band Irakere. Chucho Valdes also was the leader of the Afro-Cuban Jazz Messengers, a group named after Art Blakey’s famous band, and still is a busy performer. I am very, very, very proud to be part of this family,Chuchito says."

[He blends a mainstream jazz feel with the dance sounds of Cuba to create driving music that comes close to needing no backup players. His rhythmic blend will show a mix Afro-Cuban, mambo, cha-cha and funk.]
