International Community Band -

This is your invitation to join a new international community band in Copenhagen — a welcoming music project for internationals who miss playing music, want to meet new people, or simply want to be part of a creative musical community.
Hosted by Folkekirken for Internationals and Hans Egedes Sogn, this new initiative brings together people from different countries, cultures, and musical backgrounds to create music together in a relaxed and inspiring setting.
The band is open to everyone:
- beginners and experienced musicians
- people who read sheet music and people who play by ear
- classical musicians, folk musicians, indie musicians, jazz musicians, and curious newcomers
- all instruments welcome – and we would also be happy to have a few vocalists
The musical direction depends on the people who join. We begin with folk songs and acoustic music traditions, but the project is open to experimentation, improvisation, and new ideas.
The band is led by musician and organist Martin Bennebo, whose background includes punk music, improvisation, church music, and collaborative music-making across genres. The focus is not perfection or performance, but participation, creativity, and the joy of playing together.
Who Is It For?
This community band is especially for internationals living in Copenhagen who are looking for:
- music activities in English
- creative communities in Copenhagen
- social music groups for adults
- folk music and collaborative music-making
- ways to meet people through music
- relaxed music environments without auditions or pressure
There are no auditions and no requirement to perform publicly. The idea is simply to gather regularly, make music together, and see where it leads.
Bring your instrument — or just your curiosity.
Location?
Rehearsals take place in Tiny Church, a remarkable small wooden church located by the waterfront in Nordhavn, Copenhagen. The newly built twelve-sided church is surrounded by sea and open sky, creating a very special atmosphere for music and community. The area itself has a unique, almost handmade character, shaped by small self-built leisure houses created from recycled and found materials over many years.
Getting there is part of the experience: metro, bus, and a walk through the landscape before arriving at this hidden architectural gem by the water. Sunset at Tiny Church is something special.
