Join us on Saturday, April 29, 2023, as we celebrate International Astronomy Day co-hosted by Skyscrapers, Inc. (Amateur Astronomical Society of RI), and the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium. Activities kick-off at the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, Roger Williams Park and will run from 12:30-3:30pm with planetarium shows at 1pm and 2pm (reservations required-planetarium show tickets must be purchased online), public solar observing, and astronomy activities at the museum. White light and hydrogen alpha telescopes will be set up in front of the museum for viewing the magnificent details of the sun (weather permitting). Skyscrapers members and museum staff will be presenting activity tables that will include: Beginner Astronomy, the James Webb Space Telescope, and the Effects of Light Pollution.
Seagrave Memorial Observatory in N. Scituate will host public observing night Saturday evening, April, 29th. Short videos will be presented in the meeting hall, volunteers will give tours of the night sky for those interested, and the observatory’s historic 8” Alvin Clark, 12” Meade, and 16” Meade telescopes will be open from 7:30pm-10:00pm for viewing a variety of celestial objects (weather permitting).
