Intermediate Soldering: Bezel Set Rings
Instructor: Francesca Faucette
Sunday, June 28 | 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
In this immersive all-day jewelry workshop, you’ll learn how to fabricate and set a bezel-set cabochon ring in sterling silver, a bold, substantial piece you’ll be proud to say “I made it!” when compliments start rolling in. Students will move beyond basic soldering techniques and learn how to construct a backplate and bezel setting, allowing you to securely set any beautiful cabochon stone or even your own artisan glass. These techniques are foundational in silversmithing and are used widely across contemporary jewelry styles. This workshop focuses on methods that can be done with a small butane torch and minimal tools, making it perfect for jewelers who want to continue working at home without investing in a large studio setup.
We keep the class small and intimate, so everyone receives plenty of guidance and hands-on support. Expect a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where you can experiment, ask questions, and connect with fellow makers. A lunch break will also be incorporated.
Skill Level: Intermediate. Basic soldering skills required.
Age: 18+
Skills You’ll Learn
Students will learn bezel construction, cabochon stone setting, sawing and metal fabrication, soldering techniques, filing and texturing metal, oxidizing for depth and contrast, and polishing and finishing. Students will also learn the language of silversmithing, gain confidence using essential tools, and pick many tips and skills that will translate to future jewelry projects!
Member Rate: $150
Non-Member Rate: $165
Material Fee: $45 (paid directly to instructor). All of the materials and supplies are included (sterling silver and gemstone cabochons according to availability). Tools and Equipment are provided for student’s use during the class.
Registration Deadline: June 21
Class is conducted off-site at a satellite location, Studio Navarri:
This workshop will be conducted at Studio Navarri — a small private jewelry studio designed to inspire creativity, craftsmanship, and artistry. Whether you’re curious about jewelry making or dreaming of becoming a jewelry designer and artist, Studio Navarri has everything you need to begin your journey. Inside the studio, students will find two fully equipped jewelers benches where they can get a true feel for the craft and learn how a professional bench is set up. They’ll work with a Foredom Flex Shaft — the jeweler’s version of an ultra-powerful Dremel.
Students will gather around a large farmhouse table with plenty of room to spread out, create, learn, and share ideas in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere. Studio Navarri also features a finishing and polishing machine with built-in vents to help students achieve an incredible high shine, plus a rolling mill for creating beautiful textures and patterns in metal. Add in great lighting, a welcoming creative atmosphere, and our adorable little studio puppy, Kinki, for the perfect place to learn, create, and be inspired. Come experience the magic of jewelry making at Studio Navarri!
