This workshop is in person for 10 weeks, 4 hours per week.
So, you’ve completed Intro to Silversmithing and the Silversmithing Fundamentals, have learned quite a few metalsmithing skills, and are ready to continue your metalsmithing journey with more guided instruction in advanced soldering, metal forming and stone setting. In this program we’ll continue building on and practicing your soldering skills, but our main focus will be in stone setting.
This course is designed for students who feel confident with their current soldering skills and want to learn how to incorporate gemstone into their work.
During the first half of this course, you will be guided to create a bezel setting for a round, oval, and irregular cabochon. You will learn how to calculate the length of metal required, how to solder the bezel together and attach it to a back plate. Then you will learn how to set the stone.
Over the second half of the course, students will advance to Cubic Zirconia’s and doing various tube and prong settings.
Prerequisites: At least - Intro to Silversmithing (Beginning Silversmithing).
**Participants are required to be proficient in soldering before the course. The instructor will not have the ability to dedicate time during this course to review basic soldering.
Copper and Brass will be included in the cost.
