Intermediate Longform (203) Deep Dives w/ TBC Improv UK - Winter '27
About this Event
Intermediate Improv - 202 Deep Dives - 4 key skill workshops
For those who want to expand their skills in a certain area, you can dip in where you feel necessary. The 202 course offers 4 across the term, each an individual core topic. They are standalone themes, and of course, we think they're all equally important!
Together in this series we will explore the skills of shortform improv at a deeper level. We'll look at specific applications and play with differing concepts, to strengthen your improv tool belt. If you've taken our 202 before, this may be different, scroll to check!
This is a supportive and fun environment where you can relax into silliness! Each class will include games and exercises to get us feeling loose and inspire fun, and then dive us into the topic of the day. You will be on your feet, active, trying and playing - laughs are guaranteed!
Core Topics:
- Group Mind
- Transitioins
- Tilting
- Split Screening
About the Start Strong: Group Mind workshop:
Find the power of total ensemble connection. This workshop focuses on syncing up with your group so you can react, support, and build expansive longform worlds as one cohesive unit. Learn how to listen deeply to the entire room, anticipate your teammates, and let collective instinct guide where the show goes next. Discover how dropping your individual agenda creates effortless group scenes, builds deep trust, and leads to organic, spontaneous callbacks and themes no single player could have planned alone.
About the Genres: Transitions workshop
Master the art of keeping a longform piece flowing seamlessly from beat to beat. This workshop explores the mechanics of organic edits—from sweep edits and tag-outs to panel edits, time hops, and organic sound-and-movement shifts. Learn how to read the pace of a scene, recognize the precise moment an edit is needed, and use spatial movement to transform the stage. You’ll leave with the confidence to maintain show momentum and make every scene transition feel slick, purposeful, and theatrical.
About the Tilting workshop:
Learn how to elevate a grounded longform scene by leaning into the unexpected. This workshop dives into the concept of the "tilt"—introducing a choice, secret, or subtle shift in perspective that changes the emotional temperature or dynamic without disrupting the reality you’ve built. Discover how to drop your initial assumptions, react authentically to curveballs, and use internal stakes to transform a simple slice-of-life scene into a rich, compelling narrative beat.
About the Split Screening workshop
Unlock one of the most dynamic visual tools for multi-scene longform formats. This workshop shows you how to run parallel scenes side-by-side on stage, using cross-talk, thematic echoes, and contrasting energy to heighten both worlds. Learn how to stay deeply connected to your scene partner while actively listening to the adjacent scene, discovering how two seemingly unrelated environments can reflect each other, weave together, and unlock deep comedic or narrative pay-offs.
