Love blues music and blues dance? Hungry for more? Join us for two hours of intermediate blues dance workshops with visiting Seattle-based Blues dancer and instructor Robin Chow. This will be followed by open floor time: time for you to ask questions, practice your moves, social dance and hang out with your community.ABOUT ROBIN
Being a dancer who started later in life, and owing so much to the discovery of a hip hop tutorial video at the back of a You Got Served DVD, Robin truly believes that dance is inside every one of us. Whether it's a fully realised passion, or a whisper of curiosity, he feels that dance should always be available to our selves, whatever one's dance experience or familiarity. His dance repertoire is based on solo movement learned from a studio hip hop background, with the journey into social dancing starting with lindy hop, and over time including blues, balboa & fusion. And ever since his introduction to blues dancing in 2018, he has become a passionate practitioner and advocate of the form, and is dedicated to a continued journey of learning and sharing of blues dance and culture.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Comfy Close Embrace
Getting into close embrace is easy. Just get up close and personal to your partner. But getting into close embrace that’s comfortable … What are we looking for? What do we do implicitly and explicitly to get there? In this workshop, we’ll dive into all things close embrace, from body mechanics, to making choices to enter & exit close embrace, to the cultural context behind this fundamental partnership in blues!
Ballroomin' Like You Mean It
Blues started in juke joints, but it didn’t stay there! Blues was danced in ballrooms often to slower jazz numbers, and is notable for how it plays to traditional western ballrooming concepts like line of dance and close partnered dancing, but with the distinct look and feel of blues aesthetics and values. Get ready to pulse, travel, stride and sway, the blues way.
