4 week intermediate partner Blues Dance series.
Instructors: Sara Hughes, Candra Marr
Monday evenings: 7:30-9pm
$80 for the 4 weeks or can pay as you go, $20/class (cash or e-transfer)
To register, message me (Sara Hughes) on facebook or you can email [email protected] if you don't have facebook.
Please let me know if you need to cancel. Due to the small space there will be a maximum of 8-10 participants.
Classes will ideally build on each other, but you do not necessarily have complete earlier ones to take the next, depending on your level of experience. Single day drop-ins allowed if there's space, but please still send me a message.
Must have at least some experience specifically with blues dance (aware of basics like posture, pulse, lag).
Location (PLEASE READ):
I will send people the exact address when registering (Marpole area of Vancouver). The facebook address marker is not the exact address (for privacy purposes).
I do NOT have a buzzer to let people in, so I ask that people please show up promptly by 7:30pm, so someone can run to the door and let you in. Send a message, text me, or call me when you arrive and someone will come get you.
There is lots of street parking in the area.
Topics:
Nov.23: Connection
Blues has a flexibility of connection that allows for more individuality, but how do we stay connected even when we're doing different movements? Tuning our proprioception.
Nov.30: Lag everywhere
How to get that relaxed and squishy connection. How can I be a responsive follow and still have a voice? How do I balance guiding and listening as a lead? (will build on week 1)
Dec.7: Musicality
There are as many styles of blues dance as there are styles of blues music...how do I know what styles to dance to this song?
Listening, call and response, hitting the breaks - bringing the music and our partner together.
Dec.14: Slow drag
One of the oldest styles of blues. All about dancing slow & in close embrace. The subtlety, connection and squish.
(NOT to be confused with 'drag blues' - a fusion dance popular in the early 2000s based on ballroomin' styles of blues dance)
