Your Childhood is Sneaking Into Your Parenting Style

Heart pounding, you yell “Just STOP it!” to your screaming child. Turning away to gulp in some shaky breaths, you think, “Damn, I sound just like my mom.” Guilt and shame wash over you as your kiddo’s screaming gets louder.

Before you became a parent, you had visions of how calm, loving, and centered you would be. “I’ll do it differently than how I was raised,” you thought.

And on most days, you do. But sometimes everything is just. Too. Much.

You wish you had the space and energy to get more intentional about how you show up as a parent.

You long for support from other parents who get it, and who won’t judge you for your struggles.

You want to shift these generational patterns so that your kiddo doesn’t inherit your trauma, and so you can feel more playful, joyful, and calm as a parent.

Introducing: Intergenerational Healing: Raising Littles and Reimagining Legacies

Join Katherine Mancera, AMFT and Natalíe Ortega, ASW – two fierce healing professionals and mamas – for a two-part workshop supporting birthing parents in intergenerational healing.

The workshops combine reflection, embodied practices, and community support so you can release the generational patterns that are holding you back, harness the strengths of your ancestors, and create a new, juicy vision for the parent you want to be.

The workshops include:

  • Guidance from two experts in different healing modalities who hold radical, decolonizing values, so you can harness the power of politicized somatic and therapeutic healing to reimagine new ways of parenting that are more aligned with your values.
  • Space to reflect on the intergenerational patterns you are carrying as a parent – both the challenges and the strengths – so you can gain awareness of what you want to leave behind and what you want to pass on to the next generation.
  • Embodied practices that ground you in the present moment and connect you to who and what you care about, so you can be choiceful in the way you are in relationship with yourself and others and in the way you move towards your longings.
  • Community support from other parents who are facing similar challenges, so you can let go of your isolation, guilt, and shame and collectively ignite your radical, loving visions for the future.
  • A workbook including reflection exercises and somatic grounding practices, giving you the guidance you need to continue your growth beyond the workshop.
  • Psychoeducation about how intergenerational trauma is held in the nervous system, and strategies for regrounding when you’re activated, so that you have practical tools to shift your experience.

About Natalíe and Katherine

Natalíe Ortega is a mama, queer, cisgender, Latinx, sober, radical, and spiritual. She is a politicized somatic practitioner, first generation, raised in New York and rooted in Oakland. Natalíe is committed to racial justice, young folks, trauma healing, and all things woo. She offers politicized somatics as an embodied path towards healing and transformation. Folks learn somatic practices that support connection to self, others, spirit and land as well as increases a sense of safety, dignity and belonging.

Katherine Mancera is a Latina psychotherapist with 6+ years of experience supporting anxious perfectionists, perinatal folks, and couples. Katherine helps her clients cultivate peace of mind and radical self-love through therapy that blends wildly soulful explorations with a decolonizing framework and practical strategies to cope with the day-to-day. Katherine is a mama to two small, silly humans who have broken her heart way open.

Registration

Registration for this event is on a sliding scale. Offering a sliding scale comes from a desire to create multiple access points for the wild and big hearts called to learn with us. When you are able to pay the full fee you make it possible for us to include more folks at the lower end of the sliding scale, which we prioritize for Queer and Trans Black, Indigenous People of Color.

Please choose the amount that feels right to you:

  • $375 is the top of the sliding scale and the actual cost of the workshops.
  • $250 is the middle of the scale and is for those who are able to meet basic needs but have little-to-no expendable income.
  • $125 is the bottom of the scale and for whom paying any more would be a hardship.
