Interfaith Connection Cambridge - Light
About this Event
The winter season sees a number of religious festivals which focus on light and its significance in a period of darkness. The Dharmic faiths celebrate Diwali (the festival of light) but Sikhs, Hindus, Jains, and some Buddhists all celebrate this festival in different ways. For Jews, Chanukah marks the rededication of the Second Temple and the miracle of a small jar of oil burning for eight days. Light is also a significant part of the Christian festival of Advent where a candle is lit each week in the lead up to Christmas.
Join us for an event hosted at the Woolf Institute to explore how our different traditions use the theme of light in festivals, stories, and the lives of religious figures.
Light refreshments will be served. Children accompanied by a responsible adult are most welcome.
The Interfaith Connection Cambridge brings together people of faith in Cambridge so that we can learn about one another’s traditions, understand one another better, extend hospitality to one another, and become friends. We are open to people of all faiths.
The current steering committee includes members of local Jewish, Baha'i, Hindu, Jain, Muslim, Sikh and Christian communities. We gather three times a year, taking it in turns to host one another.
