How communities can prepare for, engage with, and interact with development to direct it towards their values. Part of the Sustainability Speakers Series
Join us In-Person at the River Falls Public Library or virtual through the River Falls Public Library Facebook and YouTube pages for a presentation on how rural communities are being impacted by corporate development such as data centers and how they can try to prepare for and leverage proposed development to meet their needs with an emphasis on resilient local food systems.
Presented by Tara Greiman, Wisconsin Farmers Union Director of Conservation and Stewardship.
Tara leads the Department of Conservation & Stewardship in service of Wisconsin Farmers Union members. She facilitates WFU's member-led Climate, Water, and Energy committees and manages the organization's conservation projects.
Tara grew up in the exurbs of the Twin Cities on a small livestock farm surrounded by corn fields in view of the Minneapolis skyline. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota Morris in environmental studies and social psychology with a focus on understanding the factors affecting farming decisions and environmental stewardship. Upon graduation, her professional work focused on rural community development and her private life focused on livestock (horse training and raising sheep and alpaca for fiber), textiles, and food systems. Since 2021, Tara has been with the Farmers Union organizing through the Farmer-Led Watershed Councils where she has learned from farmers across 5 counties the intricacies of protecting soil health and rural communities. In 2024, her role was expanded to work statewide wherever farming and the environment intersect as the Wisconsin Farmers Union Director of Conservation & Stewardship. She currently lives in Elmwood, WI.
