About this Event

Intellectual Property – Who Cares?

Intellectual property is a cornerstone asset of many businesses, but does anyone truly believe this? Or care? In this informative seminar you will discover what IP is and why its important and valuable to businesses the world over.

Your clients’ most valuable assets may not appear clearly on their balance sheets

Intellectual property can be one of a business’s most valuable assets, yet it is often overlooked, misunderstood or left unprotected.

For accountants, advisers, business owners and emerging professionals, understanding intellectual property is increasingly important. A business may have valuable brands, inventions, product designs, software, confidential information and commercial know-how without recognising their value—or the risks of failing to protect them.

Join the CPA Young Professionals Networking Group for a practical, in-person seminar that will demystify intellectual property and explain how it can protect and enhance business value.

The session will examine:

• what intellectual property is and where it exists within a business;
• patents, trade marks, registered designs and copyright;
• confidential information, trade secrets and business know-how;
• how intellectual property can create or multiply business value;
• why timing is critical when protecting intellectual property;
• common mistakes made by businesses and advisers; and
• practical issues accountants and business advisers should identify when working with clients.

Whether you advise established businesses, start-ups, investors or entrepreneurs—or you are building a business of your own—this session will help you recognise intellectual property risks and opportunities before valuable rights are lost.
