Integrating community needs into regional healthcare planning

Come along to our July impact breakfast where Jeanelle Gibson, Manager (Mental Health) at NQPHN will be highlighting the journey of the Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) in redesigning its mental health stepped-care model.

In 2022, NQPHN undertook an independent review of its model, identifying opportunities to improve access, care transitions, and service delivery integration.

Over 18 months, the NQPHN team engaged extensively with the community, hosting 20 group workshops and 40 stakeholder meetings, reaching over 580 participants to co-create a new model of eight service offerings underpinned by five key delivery principles.

Navigating the challenges of a vast, geographically dispersed region, the NQPHN has now identified 17 service providers, ranging from solo clinicians to large national organisations, to deliver in this transformed mental health service landscape.

Challenges? Staying true to the process, and committing to the level of engagement needed to understand and bring the community’s vision to life.

Learnings? Committing to an ongoing evolution of the process, and the required effort to bring internal and external stakeholders on this journey (spoiler alert – many can be challenged when you don’t yet have all the answers!)

About the Speaker

Jeanelle has worked as a service manager and a service commissioner, spending seven impactful years at Brisbane North PHN and now almost two years at Northern Queensland PHN. She’s led a wide range of design processes with primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare providers across mental health, suicide prevention, Indigenous health, homeless health, chronic disease, older person’s care, and maternal and child healthcare.
Jeanelle is dedicated to enhancing people’s experiences within the health system, believing it's crucial for improving overall health outcomes. On a larger scale, she is committed to designing and implementing reforms that address the complexities of the Australian healthcare system and broader service infrastructure.

Impact breakfasts are about learning together to design programs and services that make an impact.

Impact breakfasts join individuals working in the health, social and not-for-profit sectors to learn, connect and seek advice.

The concept is simple. Each month, we invite you and your peers for breakfast and a short presentation in a casual networking environment.

Max presentation time is 30 mins. Breakfast will be available from 7.30 am.
