Oklahoma City Community College will be hosting a fantastic professional development opportunity — a Two-Day Integrated Campus Response Seminar Series in collaboration with ATIXA and NABITA on Sept. 10 and 11, 2025. The certification courses will consist of: Day 1 ATIXA: Title VI Compliance Foundations Level One for Educational Settings
This one-day provides an in-depth examination of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.
The course focuses on the application of Title VI in educational settings, exploring its implications for school districts, colleges, and universities. Expert faculty will explore compliance requirements, policy development, and enforcement mechanisms to ensure educational equity in alignment with these laws. Key topics include the scope of Title VI, the role of the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR), policy development, procedures for handling complaints, and recent OCR resolution agreements. Pre-learning will be available to the course participants when the ATIXA Event Lobby opens 5 days before the start of the course.
Day 2 NABITA: Non-Clinical Assessment of Suicide (NAS)
Designed to provide non-clinical BIT/TAT/CARE and case management team members with the knowledge and skills to identify and assess an individual’s risk related to suicidal ideation.
This one-day certification course teaches research-based practices to assess, intervene, and manage suicide risk for students, both on campus and virtually. Using NABITA’s Non-Clinical Assessment of Suicide (NAS) tool, participants will learn how to triage the overall risk for suicide an individual poses. The tool relies on risk and protective factors to help non-clinical professionals conduct assessments. NABITA’s expert faculty members will train participants in how to identify an individual who may be experiencing suicidal ideation, strategies for asking about suicide in a one-on-one appointment, and in-depth application of NAS as a suicide assessment tool. Additionally, participants will learn how to make an effective referral to clinical mental health services and deploy appropriate interventions based on the level of risk assessed using NAS.
Upon completion, participants will receive either a one-day certification or dual certification from NABITA and/or ATIXA, based upon their registration and attendance, signifying their expertise and commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant educational environment.
