The event serves as an inspiring forum for young scholars interested in constitutionalism, crisis governance, and democratic participation. The conference aims to address fundamental questions regarding democratic resilience and the role of constitutions in the face of contemporary challenges. ✨📖
The conference features five panels, including two student-doctoral panels co-organized with the Association of Law Students’ Library of the Jagiellonian University (TBSP UJ) – the oldest student scientific society in Poland, based at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University. ⚖️📜

Proposed Thematic Areas:
Students and PhD candidates may submit proposals to the following two thematic panels:
Panel I – Democracy on Hold? Citizens and Rights in Times of Crisis 🛑👤
Possible topics include:
⚫ Constitutional protection of citizens’ rights during crises
⚫ Legality, legitimacy, and citizen resistance to unconstitutional emergency measures
⚫ Vulnerability of young citizens’ rights in emergency governance
⚫ Judicial independence and fundamental rights in times of constitutional stress
⚫ Pandemic restrictions and individual freedom
⚫ Balancing human rights and public security
⚫ Social media, digital discourse, and constitutional crises
⚫ From temporary emergency measures to long-term limitations on rights
Panel II – Who Governs in a Crisis? Power and Constitutions in the Visegrad Group 🏛️🌍
Possible themes include:
⚫ Constitutional frameworks for emergency governance in Visegrad states
⚫ Extra-constitutional or unconstitutional responses to crises
⚫ Long-term constitutional effects of crisis governance
⚫ Crisis governance as a catalyst or stabiliser of constitutional conflict
⚫ Shifts of political authority during emergencies
⚫ Emergency powers and the erosion of constitutional governance
⚫ Institutionalisation of emergency rule
⚫ Divergence or convergence among Visegrad constitutional responses
We invite students and PhD candidates to submit their proposals. Presentations must:
⚫ be in English
⚫ last no more than 7 minutes
⚫ be delivered in person
