Mahi Moana & Pacific General Assembly presents the official launch for the Instruments of the Moana film!!First of its kind, Instruments of the Moana is a 8-part docu series retracing sound producing instruments that were once the main staple of the moana islands sound chamber. Due to colonisation and the arrival of foreign belief systems, these instruments were slowly pushed out and replaced by western influences. Whilst some have remained, the majority are no longer with us.
In honor of the pacific island cultural pratice of blessing taonga before they embark on their journeys, the event is a gathering of elders, knowledge holders and Tagata Moana to view and bless the film. The film was supported from funding by the NZ Government's Ministry of Cultural & Heritage.
