Northumbria University “Inspired By” Science Lecture Series. 1 of 11
As part of the Lit & Phil’s celebrations of the bicentenary of the opening of its building in 1825, we are delighted to present an exciting new collaboration with Northumbria University. Inspired by lectures that took place in the building during the 19th century, Northumbria’s scientists and researchers will present their own leading-edge work, updating the topics for a contemporary audience. Organized by Professor Martyn Amos (curator of the highly successful “NU Ideas at the Lit& Phil” series), this programme of events promises to inform, entertain, and provoke.
Sammie Buzzard, Assistant Professor, Geography and Environmental Sciences. Sammie is a glaciologist in the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM), and her research focusses on the surface hydrology of Antarctica's ice shelves, and modelling how and where ice shelves may become vulnerable to sudden collapse.
Inspired by Arctic Regions (1856-7 season by Captain Bedford Pim) / Glaciers of Switzerland and Greenland (1868-9 season by Edward Whymper)
