Inspiration & Influence: Art Education for Black Students in DC, 1872-1980

This panel discussion, moderated by curator Dr. Samir Meghelli, brings artist-educator-scholars, Dr. Pamela Harris Lawton, and Debra Ambush, into a conversation on art education in Washington, DC for African American students from 1872 through 1980. The discussion includes a brief review of Thomas Hunster’s career as the architect of art education for Black students in Washington and how the civil rights and Black Arts movements impacted art education in the District of Columbia.
